A wasteful Winnerspark FC salvaged a point in their first ABC Motsepe league game of the new season with a 1-1 draw against Musina United at home in Westfalia ground last Saturday.
The new look Bellevue based side who had planned to register the maximum three points had a slow start to the game and therefore conceded a goal very early in the first half via the boot of Sandile Moduke.Their experienced coach Abel Makhubele was forced to make early changes in the first half taking out striker Kwenzeka Shandu for playmaker Kgothatso Rakgoale to bring stability in the midfield. The move seemed to have worked as the home side started creating obvious scoring opportunities but poor finishing led them down. The score remained 1-0 at recess.
The home side came back stronger in the second half trying to find the equaliser but their shots at goal went awry. They were however given a lifeline halfway through the second half as the visitor’s goalkeeper Musima Machaba was sent off after he received a second yellow card for time wasting.
Musina therefore sacrificed their striker Paseka Mabunda for goalkeeper Thulani Ndou while Winnerspark substituted defending midfielder Thapelo Mokgola for striker Bennie Lebeya. Winnerspark exerted pressure on Musina who finally conceded a penalty in the dying minutes of the game.
Defender Treasure Tau converted from the spot kick to help his side salvage a point to avoid defeat in their first league game of the season. Winnerspark is currently occupying position six on the 10 teams stream A league log. The stream is led by coach Musa Nkondo’s Vondwe X1 Bullets side after their they defeated last season stream runners-up Giyani Happy Boys 3-2 away at Xikokwana stadium.
Meanwhile, in the stream B Tzaneen United FC started their new season campaign on a high note winning their first game by a convincing 3-0 against Seshego based Mighty FC last Saturday.
The Tzaneen based side is currently leading the league log with three points and three goals followed by Mokopane PJ Stars also with the same number of points and two goals.
