MATRIC CLASS OF 2022

After the delays induced by all sorts of factors including COVID-19 and leaked question papers, the 2022 Matric class will eventually know its fate when the Minister of Basic Education Matsie Angie Motshekga announces the results and honours the best performers tomorrow on Thursday.

Matric results that are normally released early in the year are this year released two weeks after the reopening of schools to the anger of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) and other education stakeholders.

The Economic Freedom Fighters condemned the delayed release of 2022 Matric results as it affects the future of learners. “It has a ripple effect on the transition of learners to the post-secondary education and training sector, and affects planning by families who are unable to proceed with any logistical arrangements relating to their children’s post-matriculant studies,” the EFF continued in a statement.

The 2022 cohort of matriculants is the largest compared to the previous years – 921 879 candidates, 167 119 or 18% of the candidates were part-time, examined at 6 907 centres across the country and on 66 subjects.

UMALUSI, the statutory body charged with the responsibility and power to perform standardization of examination results, on Monday approved the release of the 2022 Matric results. It however says they are some irregularities that are still being probed, but these have no bearing on the integrity of the results.

The 2022 National Examination Results will be released tomorrow Thursday by the Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga and will be followed by the Provincial Results on Friday released by Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha and MEC for Education Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya.

Limpopo province hasn’t been doing very well in recent years, resulting in the redeployment of the erstwhile MEC of Education Polly Boshielo to the Department of Public Transport and Community Safety. There will therefore be an eagerness on how the province fares this time around under the new leader.

The province is still haunted by infrastructure and sanitation challenges which add to the contributory factors to poor performance in particularly historically disadvantaged communities in villages.

Results will be available from Friday at centres where pupils sat for their examinations and candidates and their parents are advice to go through for assistance.
