Police search a motorist as part of operation”Kukula”
Police confiscated 64 firearms and arrested 1530 people for various criminal activities during the simultaneously held operations “Kukula” at the weekend.
The arrested suspects face charges including murder, rapes, robberies, assaults, dealing in drugs, fraud, malicious damage to property, contravention of immigration Act, burglaries, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
According to the police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, members of the South African Police Services were joined by law enforcers from other departments and stakeholders during the operations.
Operations were conducted through tracing of wanted suspects, blue light patrols, visibility, roadblocks, stop and searches, and raiding liquor outlets, among other actions.
They confiscated 64 firearms, 506 260 counterfeit cigarette sticks, 26 dangerous weapons, 70, 89 grams of dagga, 42 dagga plants, 1.4grams, 11 grams of Nyaope of crystal meth and 1304 fines were issued.
In addition, 1 016 520ml liquor confiscated, seven robbed or stolen motor vehicles were recovered, and 74 drug related suspects and 19 for Transgression of Domestic Violence Act were arrested.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the members who are dedicated to their duties of ensuring a safe and secure environment for the citizens of this province.
Some of the suspects have already started appearing before their respective Magistrate Courts.
