Venda Football Club coach Joel Masutha has pointed to his players inability to respond to his tactics as the reason for his resignation.
The experienced mentor handed over his resignation letter to the club on Wednesday night following a humiliating 5-1 loss to former Premier Soccer League side Maritzburg United that same day.
“Nothing serious. I Just felt that the boys were not responding” he said. However his resignation letter read “It is with great regret to inform you that I am resigning from the head coach position with immediate effect. I am not greedy and don’t want to drag the team down the drain”.
His team has been struggling to win games this season even at home in Thohoyandou Stadium. Of the six games they played so far they managed to win only one at home against Platinum City Rovers, drew two and lost three. They are currently 14th on the log with five points from six games.
Masutha was blamed by the club’s fans on Facebook for using favouritism when selecting his first team for games. They expected him to field some of their favourite players, most of whom come from the ABC Motsepe league.
In one of their games angry fans protested after they saw the team sheet. Ru Ru Ruzani Jr wrote “We want our general in first eleven” , Lucky Mukoma said “Draw kana loose Muthu u do la mushumo”, which means a draw or a lose he will lose his job.
After his resignation on Wednesday one of the fans Mulaudzi Tendamudzimu said “If you want to be a successful coach sometimes u need to listen to what supporters are saying. Coach bring back Messi, Makhuvhele, Mutsivhuli to boost de first eleven”. Current technical adviser John Ferreira has taken over as the interim head coach.
