The Mayor of Greater Letaba Municipality, Councillor Dagma Mamanyoga.

The Greater Letaba Municipality council has implemented about 50 infrastructure developments projects in various villages since its inception in November 2021.

The Mayor Councillor Dagma Mamanyoga revealed during the council meeting to reflect on the two years the council has been in office.

The council spent R200 million on road infrastructure projects in villages like Ramudumo. Raphahlelo, Mohlabaneng, Jokong, Mamokgadi, Tshabela Mmatswale, Motsinoni, Thibeng, Abel, and Makhuthukwe.

At Ramodumo village, the municipality has so far spent about R17 million on the 3,5 KM road project, Ramudumo Street Paving, which is a multi-year project. The project connects the village to the nearby areas.

The Raphahlelo/Phooko street paving, a 2,4 Kilometre project has been implemented at a cost of R27,4 million.” We also have Mohlabaneng street paving, located in the Mokwakwakwaila area being a multi-year project. It is 3.3 kilometres stretch which has currently cost the municipality R30 million. Jokong Street Paving, which is also located in the Mokwakwaila Cluster. It is a multi-year project covering a distance of 4,4 KM and is currently complete. The budget that went with this project amounts to R39,5 Million,” said Councillor Mamanyoga.

The council has seen the construction Mamokgadi Street Paving, a multi-year project as well covering a stretch of 2.7KM with a budget spent of R22,1 million.

Tshabela Mmatswale Street project, considered to be by far one of the most challenging projects the municipality has ever worked on. Its sole aim was to create an access road and channel water at the same time. The road covered a stretch of 1,1 KM with a budget spent of R17,4 million.

Motsinoni Street Paving, Sephukubje Street Paving has a budget of R25,4m, covering about 2.98 km of access road, Makhuthukwe Street Paving, a R19,04m road covering about 1.8 km of ground and Abel Street Paving which is 2.8 km stretch being a multi-year project at a current cost of R17,3 m.

The 2021 municipal council has so far spent more than 30 million on bridges and storm water channels which covered areas like Sekgopo, Rampepe, Phooko, Meloding and many others across the municipal boundaries.

Rampepe Access Bridge at a current spent of R7,9 million being a multi- year project; Phooko Low Level bridge, a R2,8m Low level Bridge; Meloding stormwater canal with a spent of R7,5m being a 0,7km Stormwater channel and Sekgopo Moshate Low Level Bridge at R1,5m

One of our proudest achievements is the completion of the 1200-seater R45 million Thakgalane Sports Complex in Thakgalane village. From this ground, stars will be born – a testament to our investment in the future,” said Mamanyoga.

He said an amount of more than R37 million has been spent for electrification of more than 1500 household units. In the financial year 2021/2022, a R10 Million budget was put aside towards five areas to light up more than 500 households.

At Shamfana Village, 131 households’ units were electrified with a budget of R2,3 Million; Las Vegas, 91 units electrified with a budget of R1,6 million; Mamokgadi, 96 Units with a budget of R1,7 million; Sekgopo Maboke, 70 units with a R1,2 million budget and Khudugang, 169 units with a R3 million budget.

In the 2022/2023 financial year, R20.5 million was put aside to electrify more than 1000 households’ units in 10 areas.

This included areas like: Rotterdam, with 75 households’ units worth R1.5 million; Lephepani Village, 158 households’ units worth R3,1 million; Makhurupetsi area is 61 Units for R1,2 million; Lehlareng with 144 Units for R2,8 million; Mpepule, with 73 Units for R1,4 million; Ratjeke with 70 units for R1,2 million; Lekgwareng with 144 units for R2,8 million; Khudugani Phase 2 with 88 units for R1,7 million; Sekgopo Maboke Phase with 161 units for R3,2 million and Iketleng with 60 units for R1,2 million.

High Mast Projects implemented in the financial years 2021/2022 and 2022/2023. A budget of R6.4 million was spread across the four-cluster including Mokwakwaila, Belview, Sekgosese, Bolobedu cluster for high mast installations.

Covering areas like Sefofotse, Refilwe R Site, Refilwe Zone 3, Malekutu, Canala Gardens, Kotona, Mabitlela, Thabanatshwale, Mothobeki, Sekgoti, Lekgwareng, Boshakge, Koope, Ramphenyana, Hluvula Baji, Melong, Rabothata and Motseneng.

The municipality employed 456 EPWP employees for work done at projects in the past two years.

A further 125 was hired through the EPWP programme to work at ward level in the year 2022/23.

In 2023/24, 101 jobs were created through the EPWP ward programme.

The municipality employed 37 personnel to join the team of the municipality. In total, we have created 719 jobs in the past two years.

“We have also assisted more than 57 SMME’s in the Local Development section in different ways. Some by creating market platforms, cash and products injections towards their projects,” he said.
