Mpheni Home Defenders are through to the next stage of the Nedbank Cup following their 3-1 victory over Musina United at home in Elim on Thursday afternoon.

The last season Nedbank Cup last 16 contenders came in to the game guns blazing. As usual they played their intricate passing game which mesmerized their opponents whenever they were in possession of the ball.

They were awarded a penalty in the early minutes of the game which was converted by star defender Fisters Magodimisa. It was the experienced ex Black Leopard and Polokwane City striker Rendani  Ndou who increased the tally to two goals few minutes later with a well taken shot at goal towards halftime.

The score red 2-0 to Mopheni at halftime break. However the visitors came back very strongly in the second half and created good scoring opportunities but failed to convert. In frustration they kept pushing more players upfront in attack however the move left them open at the back.

They were therefore punished on a counter attack and conceded a third goal via the boot of lethal striker Mpho Miya towards the end of the second half. Thereafter Mpheni took their foot off the paddle and were punished with a consolation goal in the last minutes by Justice Madidibula. The game ended with a 3-1 score. Mpheni will now face Munaca at home this coming Sunday morning at 09h00.
