Giyani Happy Boys coach Mpho Maleka has resigned with immediate effect and joined National First Division side, Marumo Gallants as head coach.

He handed over his resignation letter to the Giyani based side on Tuesday and was welcomed by his new club Marumo Gallants the same day. The former Moroka Swallows and Mpumalanga Black Aces goal poacher was coach of the Giyani based side for the second season running following an impressive run with the club last year.

He narrowly missed out on a place in the ABC Motsepe league promotional playoffs to Mpheni Defenders after the two clubs fought pound for pound for top spot until the last few games of last season.

His assistant Timmy Mashele will take over as head coach. At Gallants Maleka replaces Stephen Polach who left the club after only a month of his appointment. The English coach failed to save the club from relegation quagmire losing five, drawing two and winning only one of the eight games he oversaw.

They are currently second from the bottom on the league table with just 16 points from 17 games. Maleka’s immediate task at the club is to move them away from the relegation zone. The Caf B license holder who led TTM (now Gallants) to the Nedbank Cup glory in 2021 is expected to restore the glory days at the club.
