ABC Motsepe League side United Artists were amongst the teams that were tottering at the relegation zone in the first round and in the beginning of the second round.
The Venda based side was actually written off by most soccer pundits as relegation candidates. However, against all odds, they bounced back to winning ways.
Thanks to their owner and coach Thikhedzo Mashau, who made drastic changes in the team, which proved profitable. He started by trimming his bloated squad from 38 players to 28 and later to just 18 players.
Mashau said the bloated squad tempered a lot with his winning combinations as the benched players were always an option and expected to play. “We had more players on the bench, and they all wanted to play. So we chopped and changed players, which had a negative impact on our performance, “he said.
Mashudu added that the fact that his players became more determined to fight also contributed positively towards the turn of events. They are currently on positive five with 22 points from 16 games. Should they win the remaining two home games against Maruleng Celtics and the bottom of the log side, Musina United, they could end up in the top three on the league log.
