Baroka assistant coach Amukelani “JayJay” Hlongwani has expressed his belief that his former team, Mpheni Defenders, will emerge victorious in the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs this season.
“JayJay” was part of the Mpheni team that narrowly missed out on promotion to the National First Division (NFD) in the last game last year. Mpheni drew 1-1 towards the end of the game with Upington, a result that prevented them from earning promotion.
However, this time around, the Baroka assistant is confident that Mpheni will secure a trophy and a place in the NFD league. According to “JayJay,” Mpheni’s ability to retain the core of their last season’s team, coupled with their experience and strong defensive play, will work to their advantage.
He emphasized the team’s solid defense, their potent attacking style, and the ability to effectively protect a lead as their strong point. Mpheni’s defensive tactics have proven difficult to overcome, as evidenced by their stream victory this season with only one loss.
The playoffs are set to take place in Upington, Northern Cape, from June 17 to 23 this year.
