The South African Football Association (SAFA) Limpopo chairperson, Jack Maluleke, expressed his delight that the winner of the Provincial playoffs was determined on the field of play rather than in the boardroom.
Maluleke was responding to a successful playoff final between Mpheni Defenders and Tzaneen United, which took place at Oscar Mpetha Stadium at the University of Limpopo last Saturday.
Mpheni won the game 1-0 in full time and were crowned champions of the Limpopo ABC Motsepe league for the second consecutive season.
Maluleke said, “We expect more teams to emulate Mpheni and Tzaneen because whenever we want teams to play, they want the game to be decided in the court or in the boardroom, which is unfair. We want them to win on the field of play.” Maluleke appealed to other teams to follow the rules and stated that if teams win on the field of play, they stand a good chance of succeeding in the national playoffs. Mpheni will represent Limpopo in the national playoffs in Upington, Northern Cape, on 17-23 June 2024.
