Mayor of Maruleng Municipality, Tsheko Musolwa and some of the councillors turning the sod to mark the beginning of the refurbishment of the road.
Road users and residents of Molalane Village in Sekororo breathed a sigh of relief when the Mayor of Maruleng Municipality, Tsheko Musolwa led a sod-turning ceremony for the refurbishment of the 5,5 kilometres road.
The access road through Molalane, in Ward 5 of the Maruleng Municipality is riddled with gaping potholes that have the potential to cause serious accidents. According to the residents, the terrible state of the road makes it difficult for the municipality and another Government department to provide basic services.
Musolwa said the upgrading of the road will cost the municipality R27 million and construction will take eight months to complete.
He said 30 much-needed job opportunities will be created during construction and assured those who would not get the employment opportunity that they will be employed when other road infrastructure projects such as low-level bridges are implemented in the coming financial year which starts on the 1st of July.
In the community community meeting held prior to the sod turning, residents complained about the weak electricity connections, lack of clean running water, ablution facilities, and the poorly build RDP houses.
Musolwa promised to work with the district municipality and the sector departments to address the community challenges.
Musolwa said the municipality is committed to providing services, and safe, well-maintained road infrastructure to create a conducive environment for economic development and job creation.
