Tiang “Miss T” Molokwane is following in the footsteps of her mother Cecilia, the former national convener and assistant coach. She is the bright sporting starlet who sends out such a positive message about the future of netball.

It has to be mentioned from the onset: Like mother like daughter…

This prominent wise saying plays itself in the Molokwane netball family where the phenomenal daughter is accurately following into the footsteps of her venerated mother.

Tiang, the artistic daughter of Netball South Africa president and the game’s connoisseur Cecilia Molokwane, is the bright sporting starlet who sends out such a positive message about the future of netball and the embodiment of an unparalleled that, from a Limpopo perspective, makes domestic leagues so electrifying.

Akin to her mother who was a menacing goal attacker who graduated to become a national selection convener and assistant coach of the Spar-sponsored Proteas, the youngster is also playing at the same position and is a promising coach.

Her rapid rise to stardom and the impression she makes at weekend league matches have become the stuff of sporting clichés.

Tiang started her netball career while she was barely eight years old but the Grade Five learner and captain at Elica Primary School already stands head and shoulders above her peers and other senior players at Polokwane Rising Stars.

Like her mother, who coached at both provincial and national levels, the young Tiang is respectably known as “Assistant Coach” because of her intelligent head she carries on her shoulders.

“I always lead from the front… that’s why they call me assistant coach. I have seen my mom in action and I am faithfully following through her footprints. One day I will achieve in the same way as she did, or better still, surpass her” says the young lady who also goes by the nickname of “Miss T”.

Taing’s youthful confidence and Cecilia’s ebullience are their common denominator and now they are the standard bearers of both the young brigade and veterans who should systematically change the all-too-dull approach of Limpopo netball.

While reams have been written about Cecilia administrative career as a national and continental leader, a new prospect is already sweeping across the netball landscape that a new broom (Tiang) is in the making to sweep better than the old one (Cecilia).

While Limpopo’s provincial side, the Baobabs hardly acquit themselves particularly well during this season of the Brutal Fruit Premier Netball League, youngsters like Tiang are willing to embrace a more adventurous mindset, seemingly not cowed by years of defeat and subconscious intimidation.

This new breed just longs to go out and, literally give it a go.

The senior Molokwane is optimistic about the impact her netball intelligent daughter will bring if nurtured well.

“Tiang is an insightful daughter to be proud of. She is gifted in many sporting codes, including swimming. I am confident that one day she will achieve better than me” reckons Cecilia.
