MembersĀ of the newly inaugurated Limpopo Arts and Culture Council (LACC)
Limpopo MEC for Sport,Arts and Culture, Funani Jerry Maseko has inaugurated the new Limpopo Arts and Culture Council (LACC) in Polokwane on Wednesday.
The MEC says it was long overdue that the LACC which is one of the statutory bodies, be launched to deal with pressing issues in the creative industry.
He gave the Council marching orders to deal with the Theatre project, the establishment of arts and cultural councils in all districts and local municipalities, the Mapungubwe Arts and Culture events, and the promotion of the entire creative industry in the province.
The MEC Maseko was flanked by Head of Department , Daphney Ramokgopa and the Chief Directors ,Veronique Mokgonyana of Arts and Culture, Mike Moatshe responsible for Districts.
The LACC is composed of 11 members from the creative industry specializing in theatre, music, dance, film, and other multidisciplinary genres. The team elected the executive composed of; Chairperson; Lesiba Mothoa, Deputy Chairperson: Emmanuel Rantsana, Secretary: Lerato Skhosana, Deputy Secretary: Abel Kunutu, Treasurer : Dr Rosa Mdluli and Spokesperson: Mr Kenny Mathivha.
The marching orders from the MEC Maseko include, The repealing of the Limpopo Arts and Culture Council Act of 2000 and developing policies and guidelines for amongst others the Limpopo Theatre currently in construction.
The LACC with its work clearly cut out, started working at speed with cultural and other activities beginning this weekend.
