The Limpopo Sasol Women’s League Stream B championship may witness an unconventional conclusion this season.
The league’s top contenders, Sisters FC of Mandlakazi Mamitwa and Sinthumule Khutama FC of Venda, are currently awaiting SAFA’s decision regarding their recent unfinished league match. The match was called off following an incident where a Sinthumule player caused an injury to Sisters FC’s goalkeeper, resulting in the player being sent off with a red card and the goalkeeper being admitted to the hospital for a two-week period due to a broken arm.
As it stands, Sisters FC currently leads the league with 37 points from 15 games, closely followed by Sinthumule Khutama FC with 35 points from 14 games. Sinthumule’s final match against Masakhona Liberty Experience this Saturday offers them the opportunity to potentially claim the top position with 38 points, placing them one point ahead of Sisters FC.
SAFA’s forthcoming decision on whether the match will be replayed or a victory will be awarded to Sinthumule will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the outcome of the championship.
A replay would extend the uncertainty of the league’s outcome until the final day, while awarding victory to Sinthumule would unequivocally declare them as champions.
Moreover, the scheduling of the playoffs, originally planned for the following weekend, may be subject to postponement pending SAFA’s decision.
