Former Baroka FC coach Matsemela Thoka and Dolphins FC have been unable to come to an agreement to work together this season.
Although it was initially reported that Matsemela had signed with Dolphins this week, Managing Director Eric Lehong has confirmed that the two parties were unable to reach a mutual understanding. The specific cause behind the breakdown in negotiations has not been disclosed.
Matsemela rose to prominence as a coach when he assumed the roles of caretaker and full-time coach at Baroka FC in 2020, succeeding coaches such as Dylan Kerr and Wedson Nyirenda in the Premier Soccer League.
He achieved notable success in his debut season, securing a victory against prestigious opponents like Mamelodi Sundowns in a cup competition and guiding the Limpopo-based team to a tenth-place finish in the PSL league standings. Despite this, he was subsequently reassigned to the DSTV Diski Challenge side in the following season, where he collaborated with Kgoloko Thobejane.
His most recent confirmed coaching position was with the Marumo Gallants DDC side. As Dolphins prepares for their upcoming league fixture, it has been revealed that the team will begin the season without a new coach. It is anticipated that experienced player Katlego Mashego will assume a leadership role to address the situation.
As an established giant in Second division football, Dolphins is expected to aim for their first victory of the season in their match this Friday, which will take place away in Marble Hall against Ditlou.
