Maruleng Municipality Mayor’s Half Marathon surpassed all expectations as runners from all walks of life braved the hot weather on Saturday morning to take part in the historic race.
The race, which took place in the scenic landscapes of Maruleng municipality area saw runners lit up Maruleng Show Ground with their colourful running gear and shoes ready to tackle hills and gravel roads under hot temperatures.
Majority of men and women, were vying for the top prize while most from within the province were in the race for the experience and to embrace social cohesion and healthy lifestyle.
Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion included Kgoshi Shane Sekororo of Banareng Baga Sekororo, Capricorn District Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo, Mopani District Municipality Executive Mayor Pule Shayi, Limpopo Legislature Education Portfolio Committee member Nkakareng Rakgoale, and Limpopo Legislature Deputy Chair of Chairs Peter Ngobeni, all joining Mayor Tsheko Musolwa in the festivities.
Musolwa thanked all participants who rose to the occasion to take part in the marathon. “Everyone who participated is a winner, next year we are going big, “Musolwa said.
Musolwa further congratulated Mothupi Malatji and Elizabeth Hutama for their remarkable resilience, winning the 21. 1-km Mayor’s Half Marathon walking away with R8 000 each in the male and female category, respectively.
