The South African Football Association (SAFA) in the Mopani region is set to determine the winner of the Nedbank Cup preliminary round this weekend. Eight teams, each winners of their respective groups, will compete in quarter-final matches at different venues on Saturday. The victorious teams will then proceed to the semi-finals and finals, which will take place at Nkowankowa Stadium on Sunday.
In the Phalaborwa stream, Phalaborwa United will face Lorraine Happy Stars Academy from the Maruleng stream at Burgerford to determine one representative for both streams. From the Tzaneen stream, Mariveni United and Gavaza Stone Breakers will compete to represent their stream. More so, Giyani and Bolobedu will rely on the matches between Jackson Young Stars versus Shivulana Tigers and FC Rellen versus Sekgopo Happy Boys to determine their respective representatives. The winner of the finals on Sunday at Nkowankowa stadium will represent the Mopani region in the Inter-Regional finals to determine the team to face Mpheni Defenders for a spot in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup. Soccer pundits have predicted that the experienced Mariveni United, who have reached the last 32 spot before, and the much-improved FC Rellen will make it through to the finals on Sunday, with one of the two emerging as the regional winner.
