Two accused, Latifa Adams (64) and Koashik Ishrah Mistry (54) appeared in the Polokwane Commercial Crimes Court on 10 October 2024 for alleged Contravention of the Medicine and Related Substances Act.
According to the Hawks provincial spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa , on 09 October 2024, the Polokwane based Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit in-collaboration with the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) conducted a disruptive operation in Polokwane.
During operation, the members went to one of the targeted supermarket at Excelsior Street, where they found the accused selling medicines and related prohibited products.
A search and seizure warrant was presented to the shopkeeper prior to the search.
During the search, prohibited medicines valued at over R43 000 were found and seized.
The owner could not furnish any document that authorized her to dispense or sell such medicines.
She was placed under arrest for the Contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act.
Her co-accused was arrested on 10 October at Polokwane. Both accused appeared in court and they were granted bail of R5000 each.
The matter was postponed to November 2024 for further police investigations.
