Tzaneen United has ascended to the top position in the ABC Motsepe League Stream A standings following a compelling 3-2 victory against Musina United at their home venue, featuring an artificial turf in Burgersdorp.
This significant win has secured essential points for the team, placing them at the forefront of the league.
After transitioning from Stream B to the more competitive Stream A this season, Tzaneen United initially faced challenges, drawing 1-1 in their opening match against the league newcomers Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup. However, this time around Tzaneen established an early lead in the 20th minute through a well-executed tap-in by their new winger, Meriel Nkuna. Although Musina equalized within ten minutes, Tzaneen quickly regained the advantage with a goal from their standout player, Thulani Mbonani, who finished expertly following an assist from Mokwena. Mokwena later added a third goal, bringing the score to 3-1. Despite Musina’s second goal in the closing stages of the match, it was insufficient to alter the outcome.
Coach Oruel Sambo expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance, particularly commending their dominance throughout the match and the high number of successful passes completed. He also noted their effectiveness in transitional play. This weekend, Tzaneen will compete against the second-placed Mpheni Defenders in a match that is expected to be highly competitive.
