Joel “Moporofeta” Masutha has been appointed as the head coach of Baroka FC. The club’s owner, Kurishi Mphahlele, confirmed the appointment. Masutha, who is the former coach of Venda Football Club, will serve on a probationary basis until February 2025. Mphahlele mentioned that the duration of the contract could be extended based on Masutha’s performance.

Masutha replaces Amukelani “JayJay” Hlongwani, who served as the interim coach for two months.

Hlongwani will return to his original position as assistant coach. Mphahlele explained that the decision to hire Masutha came after the team struggled to be consistent under Hlongwani, who lacked experience. Under Hlongwani’s guidance, the team won three matches, lost three, and drew two.

Mphahlele further stated that Masutha has an impressive track record, highlighting his previous success in promoting Black Leopards and saving Callies from relegation. He believes that Masutha can help Baroka achieve its goal of gaining promotion to the Premier Soccer League this season.

Coach Masutha expressed his excitement about being appointed head coach of such a prestigious club. He stated, “I feel honoured and humbled by the opportunity.” His first game will be away against Cape Town Spurs at Athlone Stadium next Friday.
