Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi opens a tap as MEC Basikopo Makamu and Mayor of Collins Chabane Local Municipality Councillor Shadrack Maluleke look on.
On the morning of Saturday, 07 December 2024, Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, recently appointed Minister of Justice and Patron of the Mmamoloko Kubayi Foundation (MKF), presided over a significant initiative that improved the lives of residents in the Collins Chabane Municipality.
The event marked a vital contribution to local infrastructure with the handover of boreholes to several villages, including Josefa, Matiyani, Maphophe, Mtititi, and Mapapila in Malamulele.
The ceremony, was held at Matiyani Creche . Minister Kubayi was warmly supported by Baskipo Makamu, the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) in Limpopo, alongside Collins Chabane Local Municipality Mayor Councillor Shadrack Maluleke, and Hosi Xilungwa Mhinga, a respected community leader.
The recipient communities expressed their appreciation for the much-needed resource of water. Hosi Mhinga, MEC Makamu, Mayor Maluleke, and other community leaders acknowledged and appreciated the donation of boreholes and football kits by Minister Kubayi’s Foundation, enhancing community spirit and engagement.
This initiative was not just about providing essential water resources but also represented a step towards empowering women and the youth, aligning with the MKF’s vision of nurturing a society where these groups are architects of their own futures.
By addressing the critical need for reliable water sources, MKF directly contributed to health improvements, economic growth, and overall well-being in the region.
Access to clean water has long been a pressing issue in many rural South African communities. With these new boreholes, the burden of collecting water—which often fell on women and young people—has been significantly reduced, allowing them to devote more time to education, entrepreneurship, and community activities.
Minister Kubayi’s efforts underscored her ongoing commitment to improving the living conditions of her constituents, a passion she carried from her former role as the Minister of Human Settlements. Her work demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges faced by underdeveloped areas and a determination to drive meaningful change.
The handover of the boreholes has transformed the daily lives of many, promising increased opportunities for development and a brighter, more self-sufficient future for the villages involved.
