The Mapungubwe Arts Festival, held at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday, was a resounding success.
The event drew thousands of fans from Polokwane and across the province, who gathered to enjoy performances by their favourite artists and DJs.
The festival’s primary objective was to promote the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Limpopo, while deepening social cohesion and national identity. The event also provided a platform for local, regional, and international musical artists to showcase their talents, thereby expanding their market.
The festival’s entertainment line-up was impressive, featuring renowned artists such as The Double Trouble, King Monada, Dr. Thomas Chauke, Amanda Black, and Dr. Winnie Mashaba, among others. The event also featured a range of local DJs, including DJ Call Me and DJ Bambo.
MEC for Sports, Arts, and Culture, Funani Jerry Maseko, expressed his gratitude to the people of Limpopo and all visitors for their unwavering support. “We have celebrated our rich heritage, diverse talents in the performing arts sector, and the vibrant spirit of unity, social cohesion, and nation-building,” he said.
Maseko’s presence at the event underscored the department’s commitment to supporting initiatives that celebrate and uplift South Africa’s rich artistic heritage.
According to Andrew Dipela, Chairperson of the Limpopo Tourism Agency Board, the Mapungubwe Festival is an annual event hosted by the Limpopo Provincial Government to showcase the province’s ability to host major events. Now in its 15th year, the festival aims to encourage Limpopo-born individuals working outside the province to return home, experience their cultural heritage, and contribute to the local economy.
King Monada, Amanda Black, and Thomas Chauke electrified the Mapungubwe Arts Festival in Polokwane, sending thousands of fans into a frenzy.
