
Mourners gather to pay tribute to Corporals Matome Justice Malesa and Tseke Moffat Molapo

Hundreds of mourners gathered at the 7 South African Infantry Base in Phalaborwa to pay tribute to Corporal Matome Justice Malesa and Lance Corporal Molapo Tseke Moffat Molapo, two brave soldiers who lost their lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo while serving in a peacekeeping mission.
The solemn memorial service was attended by a gathering of troops, loved ones, and local dignitaries, including Mayor Cllr Merriam Malatji, all of whom came together to honour the memories of Corporal Matome Justice Malesa and Tseke Moffat Molapo.
Corporals Malesa from Mashishimale and Tseke Moffat Molapo from Burgersfort were remembered for their exceptional bravery, dedication, and commitment to their duties. Their sacrifice has left a lasting impact on their families, friends, and the broader community.
The memorial service featured heartfelt tributes from friends, family members, and colleagues, who shared fond memories of the two soldiers. Lance Corporal Mamaru remembered Lance Corporal Molapo as a loyal and dedicated individual who always put his job and family first.
Private Mothwa described Corporal Malesa as a humble and kind-hearted person who always treated him with respect and equality.
Mayor Malatji praised the two fallen soldiers, saying they were dedicated servants of the country, and that the community is proud of them. The Section Head of 7SAI, Major Mulaudzi, also paid tribute to the two soldiers, acknowledging their exceptional service and commitment to their country.
Corporal Malesa and Tseke Moffat Molapo were among 14 soldiers who lost their lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in their respective hometowns, where they will be remembered as heroes and warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice.
