Former Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup coach, Moses “Pokker” Malatji, has joined the technical team of Tzaneen United.

The 42-year-old has been appointed as an assistant coach for the former Stream B champions. This news was confirmed by the team’s owner, Dennus Mafologela.

Mafologela explained that the decision to bring Malatji on board was made in preparation for the upcoming season.

“We brought Malatji into our technical team because we know him well. He was our coach when we first established the team, and we recognized the need to include him in our preparations for the next season, where we aim to compete for promotion. We have seen his coaching skills demonstrated during his time with Golden Syrup,” said Mafologela.

Malatji, who holds a CAF D license and is set to complete his C license soon, left Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup under difficult circumstances following a string of poor results. Despite receiving praise from management and players for the team’s performance, he struggled to achieve the necessary results due to a lack of quality players during his tenure.

At Tzaneen United, he joins a club renowned for attracting talented players, many of whom have progressed to the National First Division and PSL teams. Currently, Tzaneen United sits in an unusual seventh position in the league, having earned 18 points from 13 games.
