Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup new coach Zungu Nkosi.

ABC Motsepe League side Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup faced a 1-0 defeat against visitors Munaca FC at home in Mamanyoha Stadium during the debut match of new coach Zungu Nkosi over the weekend.

Despite the loss, both fans and team manager Thabo Moremi remain optimistic about the team’s future, having witnessed an impressive display of energy and skill that promises a bright outlook for the club.

Coach Zungu made bold changes to the starting lineup, incorporating five experienced players. This decision clearly paid off, as Thlothlokwe dominated the match despite the challenging conditions of a wet pitch, creating numerous chances that unfortunately went unrewarded. They managed to hold their own against Munaca, who had previously handed them a heavy 5-0 defeat in the first round of the league. A momentary lapse in concentration contributed to the only goal of the match, resulting from a misplayed back pass by one of Thlothlokwe’s defenders. A Munaca striker capitalized on this mistake to score, giving his team a narrow lead.

Team manager Thabo Moremi praised the team’s performance, calling it one of the best he has witnessed, except for the final score. “The coach had just three days to prepare the team, yet their performance was nothing short of outstanding. It was one of the best displays I’ve seen. We have no critiques about the performance, aside from the missed opportunities to score,” he stated.

Moremi also noted that, for the first time, fans left the match feeling positive and hopeful rather than disappointed, highlighting the team’s potential. He emphasized that the two-week break, which began on Monday, will provide Coach Nkosi with ample time to refine the squad for the upcoming challenging clash against league leaders Vondwe at home.

The mood is high, and the future looks bright for Thlothlokwe, who are still struggling in the relegation zone with just three points from 14 games.
