At just 23 years old, Mpho Louis Letsoalo is sprinting into the national spotlight. Born and raised in the humble village of Rapitsi near Ga-Kgapane township, Letsoalo has established himself as a formidable competitor in both track and road running.

His impressive record boasts 56 medals from 56 races across South Africa, including 26 golds, highlighting his discipline, passion, and dedication.

Letsoalo competes in the 100m and 800m track events, as well as the 10km road race, showcasing a rare blend of explosive speed and long-distance stamina.

He began running in 2013 during his primary school years, using the sport not only for personal achievement but also as a mission to uplift others. “My dream was to help youth stay away from drugs and substance abuse by encouraging them to join athletics. I wanted to help them create a future,” he said.

A former member of the Bolobedu Athletic Club, Letsoalo now plans to join the Polokwane-based Masai Athletic Club, which is home to Olympic gold medalist and global icon Caster Semenya, who is also his role model. “Caster inspires me. She’s not just a champion; she’s a fighter. I want to follow in her footsteps and represent our country with pride,” he stated.

Currently, Letsoalo is preparing for the Senior 800m Championship scheduled for April of next year. This race serves as a national qualifier for the World Championships, and he is aiming to achieve a target time of 1 minute and 44 seconds by September—a time that would place him among South Africa’s elite athletes.

Beyond collecting medals and titles, Letsoalo’s heart is focused on community upliftment. “I want to win, yes, but more than that, I want to earn so I can help those in need. I understand what it feels like to come from nothing. I want to give others a chance,” he added.

With determination in his stride and a vision in his heart, Mpho Letsoalo is not just running races; he is chasing a lasting legacy. If his track record is any indication, the finish line may lead him to greatness.
