You are invited to attend the Mopani talent search program
Former Nkowankowa Continental coach Peace Khosa is set to host the Mopani Talent Search at Nkowankowa Stadium on 4 July, giving aspiring footballers from across the district an opportunity to showcase their talent in front of higher-division clubs.
The trials are open to players born between 2002 and 2009 and will get underway at 08:00.
Players are required to bring their identity documents or birth certificates, soccer kit and boots. A registration fee of R100 will be payable on the day.
Khosa said the talent search was established to help talented players gain exposure and create opportunities for them to further their football careers.
“There is a lot of talent in Mopani, but many players do not get the exposure they need to be seen by bigger clubs. This programme is aimed at opening doors for those players,” he said.
Only 23 players will be selected to form a squad that will be coached by Khosa, a CAF B Licence holder.
The squad will then play a series of friendly matches against clubs competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and development structures, including Polokwane City, Magezi FC and Venda FC.
Khosa said the matches will provide players with an opportunity to impress scouts and coaches from professional clubs.
The programme has already produced several players who have gone on to play at a higher level. Among them is Carlton Mashumba Masedi, who has represented Baroka FC, Highbury FC and the Black Leopards DDC side.
Another player who benefited from the initiative is Mbombi “Parker” Ntiyiso, who went on to play for Baroka FC in the Premier Soccer League.
Last year, the selected squad also played against Magezi FC as part of efforts to expose local talent to professional structures.
Khosa encouraged young footballers from across Mopani to take advantage of the opportunity.
“We are looking for talented and disciplined players who are serious about taking their football careers to the next level. This is an opportunity for them to be seen by clubs that compete at a much higher level,” he said.
Interested players can contact Khosa on 083 477 9018 or report directly to Nkowankowa Stadium on the day of the trials.
