Incumbent chairperson, Mokgadi Moswatsi has come under fire for the persistent absence during her tenure.
At last, the provincial softball fraternity will go to the polls after months of waiting for the Annual General Meeting.
This comes after Softball South Africa declared that Limpopo Softball Association should have its elective congress on November 28.
For months, LSA, the provincial governing structure has been operating unconstitutionally after its term of office lapsed in August last year.
Clubs have been pressuring the association’s executive committee to hold the elections at the earliest convenience.
The upcoming elections could signal a regime change in which incumbent chairperson, Mokgadi Moswatsi may not return to the fold.
Moswatsi is the first ever woman to lead the provincial softball governing body since historic days of Far North Softball Association and Great North Softball Association.
She was parachuted to the highest echelons probably as women empowerment in sport, but due to ill-health, she was conspicuous by her perpetual absence.
Her deputy, Benny Boshomane had to cover up for her, literally running the show while Moswatsi was the ceremonial face when it was convenient for her.
However, she overshadowed her predecessors, Derrick Mahapa and Phuti Kgomo whose terms of office collapsed prematurely.
Moswatsi’s ineffectiveness caused severe internal displeasure, leading to the unceremonious resignation of then head of development, Thabo Molaudzi.
Molaudzi was instrumental in the development of junior leagues and women’s games.
He left the federation and started criticising from outside.
He even had an emotion-charged verbal altercation with Boshomane ahead of the 2025 National Provincial Championships.
Molaudzi said he was tired of Boshomane allegedly running the organisation like his personal entity.
“I left the federation because I really wanted to. There were lots of things that were not adequately as a collective. Boshomane was undermining us, always encroaching into other office bearers’ primary duties. What also caused my displeasure was the continued absence of the chairperson. She was a never actively in the running of the organisation. So, Boshomane had to cover for her all the time,” says Molaudzi.
The association’s Head of Marketing and Publicity, Moyahabo Mabeba says clubs are relieved that they will finally go the the elective AGM.
“We have been waiting for this date. Clubs need fresh perspectives. I think change is good but it would be great to retain office bearers who have done a sterling job. Softball needs sober minds who will sustain it, help it to grow in all the districts while building a lasting legacy,” he says.
Meanwhile, clubs have started lobbying for their preferred candidates.
SSA head of compliance, Moloko Legodi says it’s all systems go for the elective AGM.
