Seun Aphane is set to lead Texas from the mound during the second round fixture

The Limpopo Softball Association (LSA) has just released an action-packed second round Super League fixture that guarantees contemporary ballgame filled with high octane drama this Sunday.

The opening salvoes will be fired at the University of Limpopo fields in Mankweng where all the 12 Super League teams will trade bats in back-to-back fixtures.

The Super League is the elite domestic program that will culminate in top tournaments envisaged in the province.

Before the first ball is even pitched, fanatical fans will have plenty to cheer.

The second round fixture comes against the backdrop of the recently-held National Provincial Championships that were staged at the Polokwane Cricket Grounds.

The annual inter-provincial tournament, which is organised under the auspices of Softball South Africa, is the game’s Holy Grail in which top players compete over five days.

This year’s event was won by Limpopo featuring some of the players who will be on display during this second round marathon.

The commencement of the second lap will be a resumption of hostilities among top sides who are eager to ascend to the summit of the log standings.

Moletlane Texas will make to the trip to Turfloop solidly entrenched as the log leaders with a superior run rate, clinical fielding and batting belligerence.

The meroon brigade from the citrus hub of Zebediela have proved to be an unstoppable force with the bulk of the squad featuring national and international megastars.

They are armed with all the artillery regiments to win any battle on any day with tactical intelligence.

They are coached by Thapelo Seshoka who just won gold at the NPC with majority of the players coming from Texas.

Texas will have a smooth sailing game against lowly-ranked Motlolo Roots in a breakfast fixture before their encounter against their arch-rivals, second-placed Seshego Raiders.

Raiders have identified Texas as their only threat and the revival of their animosity is inevitable.

While Texas rely on talented youngsters, Raiders are a team of veterans who are often seen as also-rans.

Whenever this two teams collide, the drama gets exciting and the emotion-charged performance become the stuff of sorting brilliance.

Texas will have another battle to fight when they cross path with Greenside Eagles whom they never lost against.

Eagles are a team of inexperienced novelty acts who pose no threat against the star-studded Texas.

The eagerly-anticipated fixture program has the potential to attract the campus community on an exhilarating day of sport.

Moyahabo Mabeba, the Head of Marketing and Publicity at LSA said the association is expecting capacity crowds at the games.

He said “We have decided to take the games to a spacious venue with maintained fields where players will be at ease during play. As part of popularising the sport, we are also taking these fixtures to places where there is mass crowd and enthusiasm. UL’s Turfloop campus has been known for many years as a softball attraction and we are optimistic that they will appreciate the presence of so many players in one day. After the Turfloop fixture, the games will be staged in townships and villages as we ensure that the softball flame is kept ablaze…”
