Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup was unable to progress to the next stage of the Nedbank Cup preliminary tournament after relinquishing their 1-0 lead against United Artists at Xikokwana Stadium in Giyani.
Despite initially taking the lead in the second half through a remarkable goal by striker Matome “Rakhale” Sekgwela, they ultimately suffered a 3-2 defeat in a penalty shootout.
Several supporters contested the goal, alleging an offside infringement and faulting the assistant referee for not signalling.
Thabo Moremi, the Syrup manager, unequivocally praised his team’s performance, emphasizing that they fielded the identical team that competed in the Hollywoodbets league playoffs.
Additionally, he proudly noted that two under-18 players from their development squad were among their underage players.
