The goal of this retreat is to create a strong partnership between the government and traditional leaders, focusing on community development. Premier Dr. Ramathuba stressed the importance of working together, saying, “We are building a closer relationship with traditional leaders. We need to find a common approach to developing our communities.”
With more than 2,000 traditional leaders in Limpopo, the Premier said that community projects need the involvement of these leaders to succeed. During the retreat, key issues like infrastructure, health, gender-based violence, crime, and the handling of traditional affairs will be discussed.
Traditional Leaders are led by Hosi Peni Ngove as chairperson and Kgoshi Boleu Rammupudu as deputy chairperson of the Limpopo House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders. They aim to ensure that the voice of traditional leadership is central in talks about community service.
Throughout the retreat, presentations will be made by Members of the Executive Council (MECs), SAPS, SALGA, and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. These presentations will help traditional leaders understand what each department does and what resources are available to support community projects.
This retreat is part of a larger effort to bring together government and rural communities, respecting their needs and traditions. It’s a chance to share ideas and make sure that everyone’s goals are met with the help of traditional leaders.
The meeting Is expected to improve understanding and cooperation, benefiting the communities in Limpopo. By working together, it’s hoped that they can tackle important issues more effectively, considering the cultural context.
This initiative by the Limpopo Provincial Government shows their commitment to inclusive governance that values traditional structures while aiming for modern development.
