Dinah Mafumo, the Morabaraba Gold Medal winner at the National Indigenous Games Festival.

Dinah Mafumo (63), the ‘Master’ of Morabaraba games, received her eighth Gold Medal after winning against her rivals in the Morabaraba competitions at the National Indigenous Games Festival which took place in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

The 63-year-old woman belongs to Limpopo Team for Indigenous Games and hails from Lulekani, in Phalaborwa.

“I know all the tricks of Morabaraba and I master it.  I feel so excited to have won against all my competitors. I am so grateful that my skills have brought me thus far,”

said Mafumo.

The National Indigenous Games Festival 2022 took place in Margate, Ugu District Municipality, in the KwaZulu-Natal Province from September 24 to September 28.

Mafumo mentioned that this is not the first time she participates in Morabaraba competitions outside of the province, she went out of the province for four times. Thus far, she has attained eight medals.

She is the only woman who won a Gold Medal in Morabaraba from the National Indigenous Games competitions in her team.

The skilled Morabaraba player stated that she has been playing the game for fun many years ago. She then joined Limpopo Team for Indigenous games in 2013, and that was when she realised that she masters it after winning a number of competitions.
