Gezani United are favourites to win the Mayor’s Cup this Sunday.

The 20 000 seater Giyani Stadium is expected to be filled to it’s capacity this Sunday as the Greater Giyani Municipalty Mayor’s Cup will be reaching it’s climax. All the 31 teams from the 31 wards within the Greater Giyani Municipality who  participated in the five star tournament from it’s commencing stage in June will be in attendance  to receive their prizes.

Six teams, two from each of the three categories who have made it to the final stage of the tournament will be fighting for championship. In ladies soccer the talented Giyani Athletico who humiliated Mninginisi brave ladies 5-2 in the semifinal will be expected to fight hard to beat a brilliant Mavalani Real Night who also had a great semifinal match against Xihloka Xa Barcelona whom they beat 3-1 to advance to the final.

In Netball Ward 18 and Ward 12 who won their semifinal games by 36-8 and 32-09 respectively will be expected to throw fire on each other in their final game. The men’s soccer final between Gezani United and Asta La Vista promises fire works. This after both Gezani and Asta La Vista proved to be too good for their opponents following convincing victories throughout the tournament stages.

The overall winners in the men’s football will receive R22100, 24 gold medals, two soccer kits and two soccer balls while winners in ladies soccer and Netball will each receive R15  100 and R 13 600 with the same number of kits, medals and balls. All the other teams who participated in the tournament in soccer and Netball will each receive brand new kits for taking first position in their respective wards.

The games will begin as early as 09h00 am with a third place ladies soccer match involving Nkuri Ladies and Brave Ladies. It will be followed by Men’s third place match between Shivulani Tigers and Wonderboys at 10h00. Netball final will also start at 10h00 followed by Women’s soccer final at 12h00.

Men’s final game between Gezani United and Hasta La Vista scheduled to start at 14h30 will be headed by a curtain raiser game between GGM and Giyani Masters at 13h30.

Giyani Athletico goal poacher Nkatekani Mthombeni will be expected to lead her club to Mayor’s Cup victory this Sunday.
