Baroka FC bowed out of this season’s Nedbank Cup preliminary round with a 4-2 defeat on penalties by LaMasia on Tuesday afternoon

All the six Limpopo based clubs in the National First Division league have been knocked out of this season’s Nedbank Cup preliminary round during the week.

Premier Soccer League relegated side Marumo Gallants was among the first teams to be knocked out on Tuesday afternoon when they were crushed 3-1 by a strong Platinum City Rovers at Isak Steyl Stadium in the Vaal. Seshego based Magesi were beaten 1-0 by Pretoria Callies at home in old Peter Mokaba Stadium while Hungry Lions eliminated Casric Stars by 2-0 at Casric home in Giyani Stadium.

The on form Baroka FC who were expected to make it through to the last 32 surprisingly lost 4-2 on penalties after they drew their game 3-3 with LaMasia in full time at home in  Global Stadium.

Moreover, Thohoyandou clubs Black Leopards and Venda FC who were the last of the remaining Limpopo clubs also crushed out of the competition on Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 defeat to Maritzburg United in full time and 13-12 on penalties to AmaTucs respectively. Venda drew 2-2 in full time at home in Thohoyandou while “Lidodaduva” lost away at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Kwazulu Natal.

The eight teams from the NFD that Qualified for the Nedbank Cup Last 32 are La Masia, Hungry, Lions, Pretoria Callies, JDR Stars, Platinum City, Maritzburg United, Milford FC and Pretoria University.
