Josy United coach Shakes Manyakalla has left his club and joined rivals Winnerspark FC in what could be deemed a controversial move.

The Free State born mentor who was recently crowned best coach in the General Skhokho tournament is said to have deserted his former side for the ABC Motsepe league side.

He has been coaching the Jamela based Holywood league side since last year after the departure of head coach Musa Nkondo who resigned from the club to join Vondwe XI Bullets in the ABC Motsepe league. Josy owner Joseph Machethe said he only learned of Manyakalla’s abscondment from the club on Saturday last week in the day of the match “I was told by my players in the day of the match that the coach was seen in the Winnerspark bus” he said.

“The last time we spoke was when he was still at home in Botshabelo. He had asked to go home for the holidays after winning the tournament in December and he was expected to come back last Monday” added Machethe.

Manyakalla was in charge of the Winnerspark team that lost 3-1 to Monaca in the ABC Motsepe league game at Westfalia Sports grounds last Saturday. It was Winnerspark’s second game after the departure of highly rated coach Abel Makhubela. Makhubela was replaced by Winnerspark legend Isaac “Wacko” Senyolo who gave them their first three points of the season with an emphatic 2-1 victory over a strong Maruleng Celtics away in Maruleng two weeks ago. Senyolo is now working under Manyakalla as assistant coach.
