Winnerspark’s title hopes are still very much intact despite their failure to collect maximum points against relegation-threatened United Artists with whom they drew 1-1 last Saturday at Malamulele Stadium.

The Bellevue-based side needed to beat Artist to narrow their points gap with log leaders Mpheni Defenders who were leading with eight points before the game. However, they were handed a lifeline when the two top sides Mpheni and Vondwe drew their weekend game against each other 1-1.

Mpheni are now leading with 26 points from 12 games followed by Emmanuel with 20 points from 11 games. Winnerspark are trailing with just a point behind third placed Vondwe with the same number of games.

With 18 point still available for all the top four sides to grab before the league ends in April, the title is still very much open. The log leaders have to win five of their remaining eight games to secure the title while the other three clubs will have to win all of their remaining games to stand a chance to dethrone them. Mpheni’s next three games are against Musina United at home in Elim, Emmanuel away to Xikukwane Stadium and Madritas at home.

They beat Musina 2-1 in Musina, drew 0-0 with Emmanuel at home and beat Monaca with a slender 1-0 score in their first round games. Many soccer pundits believe that their game against Emmanuel will be a title decider while others remain in doubt over their ability to collect maximum points in their coming games since they have been inconsistent this season.

Notwithstanding fourth placed Winnerspark have a better chance of closing the gap in their coming three games. They host rookies Maruleng Celtics whom they beat 2-1 away in Hoedspruit, Munaca who beat them 3-0 at home and Emmanuel whom they beat 2-1 away in Malamulele in the first round. Should they win all the three games they will be at 27 points.
