Gomora United FC are a quest for redemption when they take on University of Pretoria in their ABC Motsepe Foundation League fixture.
Gomora United FC will travel to the capital city of Tshwane for their National First Division fixture against University of Pretoria at Tucks Stadium on November 07 singing a song of redemption.
Gomora are still licking their wounds following a devastating 3-nil loss against Hope FC on October 3.
The loss saw them slipping down to 13th place on the ABC Motsepe log standings.
The Limpopo side has been under a dark cloud recently
The team has learnt an expensive lesson about the PSL’s player regulations after a disciplinary ruling turned their hard-earned victory over Venda FC into a three-point setback.
The Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit had secured a 1-0 win at Malamulele Stadium in August, but that result has now been overshadowed by a breach of the National Soccer League’s under-23 regulations.
Instead of building on their victory, Gomora United have surrendered all three points and slipped four places in the league standings, dropping from ninth to 13th.
The punishment stems from the club’s failure to maintain the mandatory number of eligible young players on the pitch throughout the encounter.
Under Rule 35.2 of the NSL Handbook, NFD clubs must name at least five South African-eligible players under the age of 23 in their matchday squads.
Furthermore, two qualifying players must remain on the field throughout the match.
Gomora United fell afoul of the second requirement during the closing stages against Venda, despite having done enough on the pitch to secure victory.
Meanwhile, club chairman Joe Seanego has acknowledged the disciplinary outcome, further admitting that the technical team should have managed the situation better.
Seanego says the intensity of the match might have contributed to the oversight, with club officials recognising the problem when it was already too late to rectify it.
He said, “Substitutions cannot be determined exclusively by tactical requirements, injuries or fatigue. Coaches must also account for the age eligibility of every player remaining on the pitch.”
Reports from the August fixture indicate that Gomora United had three eligible youngsters in their starting line-up, but two were withdrawn late in the second half. Venda subsequently lodged a protest over the infringement.
Seanego has since apologised to the club’s supporters, urging them to rally behind the team during its league campaign.
Gomora will have a mammoth task to accomplish against AmaTucks, who will be playing at their fortress in front of their home fans.
