The South African Football Association (SAFA) Mopani regional president Vincent Ramphao, has been appointed as the Head of Delegation for the Under-17 Women’s National team at the COSAFA Under-17 Women’s Championship currently taking place in Johannesburg.
The tournament commenced on the 4th of the month and will conclude on the 13th.
Twelve teams are competing for the championship, representing their respective countries. South Africa is placed in Group B alongside Namibia, Madagascar, and Malawi. Other teams include Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Comoros in Group A, while Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia, and Mauritius are in Group C.
South Africa has already played its first match in Group B against Malawi, securing a convincing 4-2 victory and earning their first three points. Their next game will be against Namibia at the UJ Soweto B Stadium this Saturday at 14:00.
Ramphao described his role as a serious challenge, but he feels fortunate to have his background as a professional teacher, which has provided him with valuable experience in social upliftment. “As the Head of Delegation, my responsibilities include acting as the general manager of the team and ensuring their welfare. I represent the team in interrelation meetings and attend pre-match coordination meetings,” he explained.
Additionally, his duties involve submitting comprehensive reports of every match played during the tournament to the SAFA President and National Executive Committee (NEC). He also serves as the mediator for the technical team, providing support to the SAFA Head Office.
