Baroka head coach Joel “Moporofeta” Masutha’s contract is poised for an extension beyond February.
This announcement was made by team Chairman Kurishi Mphahlele. Last year, Mphahlele confirmed that Masutha’s contract would run until February, but they are now actively pursuing an extension based on the coach’s impressive results.
Since his appointment in November, Masutha has delivered remarkable results, winning four out of seven league matches and securing three draws. His recent victory in the Nedbank Cup further solidified his success, marking his eighth game and fifth win.
Mphahlele stated emphatically that they are eager to retain Masutha for the long term, emphasizing that the decision ultimately hinges on performance. “His performance has been outstanding, and we are determined to extend our unbeaten run in league games to ten,” he said.
Baroka’s next two fixtures are pivotal, with matches against struggling Venda FC in an away game and the University of Pretoria. In their last encounter in December, Baroka triumphed over Venda with a 4-2 victory at home and secured a draw against Pretoria University in a challenging away game at Tuks Stadium. The team is set on claiming maximum points in these upcoming matches to climb the standings.
Currently, Baroka sits in fifth place with 24 points from 16 games. A win against both Venda and the University of Pretoria will significantly narrow the gap with the top four teams, who are currently four to seven points ahead.
With Masutha at the helm, Baroka’s future looks promising, and the team is well on its way to achieving its goals of gaining promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
