Reels of detonating fuses

A 27 year-old man appeared in the Musina Magistrate Court on Monday facing charge unlawful possession of explosives.

Freedom Mokoena was remanded into police custody and the matter was postponed to Friday 10 January for profiling.

This follows his arrest by the police on 04 January 2025 at Maroi farm Point-Drift outside Musina. It is alleged that the security officials were on duty, they stopped and searched a truck that was driven by the Mokoena. During search, they found four reels of detonating fuses inside the bag.

The police, the Musina based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation and the Explosive Unit were summoned to the scene. The explosives are valued at R140 000.

Mokoena was immediately put under arrest. The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit is entrusted with the investigation of the case.

The Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Brigadier Sicro Schambriel welcomed the arrest of the accused.
