COGHSTA MEC Basikopo Makamu addresses Thabazimbi Political Management Team.
In a pivotal visit on January 15, 2025, MEC of COGHSTA Mr. Basikopo Makamu met with the Political Management Team (PMT) of the Thabazimbi Local Municipality, marking a significant step towards revitalizing governance in the area following a recent by-election.
This election, held on December 4, 2024, was necessitated by years of dysfunction and stagnation in service delivery as internal factional disputes led to legal battles among council members.
Accompanied by the Executive Mayor of the Waterberg District Municipality, Mr. Makamu extended his congratulations to the PMT, which includes Mayor Cllr Tumisang Jacob Pilane, Speaker Dingaan Joshua Sebata, and Chief Whip Lettah Ndiweni. He underscored the critical role that the new leadership will play in stabilizing the municipality and restoring public trust.
During the meeting, Mr. Makamu emphasized the importance of induction programs for councillors. Familiarization with local legislation and governance frameworks is essential to effective administration, especially in light of the municipality’s recent challenges. “Understanding transitional processes and sound financial management is crucial for the success of this council,” he noted.
The MEC also articulated the necessity of unity among council members, stating that collaboration is vital for the progress of the municipality.
