Thabisong Primary School in Jokong village, located outside Giyani, has been closed for nearly a month after parents refused to let their children attend classes due to safety concerns.

The controversy began when a snake was discovered in one of the classrooms, sparking widespread fear among parents and learners.

The community is now demanding that the Limpopo Department of Education build a new school, citing the dilapidated state of the current building. According to parents, the old structure is no longer safe for their children, and the snake incident was the final straw.

“We cannot continue to send our children to a school that is falling apart,” said one concerned parent. “The snake in the classroom was a wake-up call. We need a new school that is safe and conducive to learning.”

Limpopo Education’s spokesperson Mike Maringa revealed that the department has not yet received an official report detailing the circumstances that led to the school’s temporary closure.
