Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup team manager Thabo Moremi believes his team is still on track to avoid relegation.
The confident manager, whose team held top of the table side Vondwe X1 Bullets to a goalless draw last weekend believes his side has a fair chance of escaping the drop in the remaining seven games.
Currently sitting at the bottom of the league table with only four points from 15 matches, Thlothlokwe trails three teams above them—Winnerspark, Maruleng Celtics, and Black Leopards—by nine points.
However, Moremi remains optimistic: “It’s not over yet. We still have a chance to move up. If you look at the three teams above us, the only difference is that they have won three games. We have the same number of draws, so all we need to do is start winning our remaining matches, including those against them, because we still have games left against each of them.”
He added, “Remember, they will also need to play against each other and against the top four teams who are desperate to secure their positions at the top of the table. So, the ball is actually in our court. We must win our games.”
Thlothlokwe will travel to Thohoyandou Stadium this weekend to face a very defensive United Artist team, who defeated them 1-0 at home in the first round. Following that match, they will face Black Leopards and Musina at home, before taking on Mpheni Defenders away, Winnerspark at home, White Vultures away, and finally Maruleng Celtics at home in their last game of the season.
To bolster their chances of survival, they must defeat United Artist this weekend and Black Leopards next weekend before facing a challenging Musina United side in three weeks. Meanwhile, second-from-bottom Winnerspark, who will play against the formidable Munaca this weekend at home, faces tough fixtures against top-of-the-table Vondwe and Musina United. Similarly, Maruleng Celtics still have upcoming matches against Mpheni Defenders, Selwane White Vultures, Munaca, and Nkowankowa Continental, while Black Leopards must contend with Musina, Mpheni, and Munaca.
By the end of this month, it will be clearer which team will face relegation.
