Twenty-seven drunk drivers behind bars were arrested at the weekend as part of Phuza Weekend operations.
The Provincial Department of Transport and Community Safety conducted a Phuza Weekend operations from Friday, October 10 to Sunday, October 12, 2025 and a total of 27 drivers were arrested for drunk driving.
According to the Acting Spokesperson of the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Matome Taueatsoala, the highest alcohol level recorded during the operation was 1.53mg/1000ml in the Mopani District.
“As we observe October as Transport Month, we urge all road users to prioritize road safety and make responsible choices. To our public transport operators, we appeal to you to ensure your vehicles are roadworthy and obey speed limits. If you’re walking or cycling, wear bright colors to stay visible, especially at night”
“We also call on liquor outlets to work with us to keep our roads safe by encouraging patrons to use alternative transport or designate a sober driver. Let’s work together to create a culture of responsible driving and make our roads safer for everyone,” said Taueatsoala.
