The ANC’s 11th Provincial Conference in Limpopo has successfully kicked off at the Pietersburg Cricket Club in Polokwane.
Despite a recent High Court scare that threatened to derail the event, the first day of the two-day gathering proceeded smoothly with more than 1,000 delegates in attendance.
The atmosphere is charged as two main factions prepare to test their strength. All eyes are on the “Unite Slate” and its rival group, known as the “Alliance of the Wounded.” While the morning session remained orderly, many expect spirited debates and potential procedural hiccups from the floor as the conference moves into closed sessions.
According to the official programme, the day began with an open session chaired by Deputy Provincial Chairperson Florence Radzilani. It featured a welcome address by Peter Mokaba Regional Chairperson John Makoro Mpe and an opening address by ANC 2nd Deputy Secretary-General Maropene Ramokgopa. The morning concluded with a political report delivered by Provincial Chairperson Chupu Stanley Mathabatha.
The situation in Limpopo stands in contrast to other provinces. In Mpumalanga, proceedings are running without a hitch after being opened yesterday by 1st Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane. Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape conference has hit a major roadblock and remains stalled following a successful court interdict.
As the Limpopo delegates move into the afternoon, the focus shifts to credentials and the critical organizational and financial reports. The day is set to end with the dissolution of the current Provincial Executive Committee and the start of voting for new leadership.
