Molototsi United are now full throttle on the road to the R1 million top prize at the Shaka Easter Tournament, and they’re not holding back.
The 64-team fiesta, hosted by businessman Shaka, has pulled in clubs from across the country and even Lesotho’s Villa FC, but it’s Molototsi who are making the headlines.
After edging Villa FC 1-0 and pulling off a thrilling 3-2 win over Royal Pirates, Molototsi went down to the wire against Tzaneen United, holding their nerve to win 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The victory keeps their dream alive and sets up a juicy quarterfinal clash against Thembisa side Sthembiso this Sunday.
At the heart of the action is Coach Isaac “Wacko” Senyolo, the 52-year-old soccer veteran who has seen it all. From winning league titles with Pipa Young Stars to leading FC Rellen to the top of the log undefeated, Senyolo brings a wealth of experience—and it shows on the pitch. His tactical nous and calm under pressure could be the X-factor that takes Molototsi all the way.
The tournament is also spoiling its top performers: the top 16 teams, including Tzaneen United, walked away with fresh soccer kits, while the top eight teams will walk home with serious cash prizes.
With the semifinals and final scheduled for Good Friday, all eyes are on Molototsi. One thing’s for sure: this team has the hunger, the skill, and the leadership to chase that R1 million all the way to the bank.
