If given time and trust, “Wiseman” Maluleke could turn Phalaborwa United into genuine contenders in the ABC Motsepe League this season.

Wiseman Maluleke, the former Black Leopards stalwart, is already making waves in his new role as Phalaborwa United head coach after guiding the side to a 2–0 win over bottom-of-the-log Nkowankowa Continental last Wednesday.
Maluleke, who joined United as a player and wore the captain’s armband, had announced his retirement at the end of January. But like many true leaders, he couldn’t stay away for long — he made a brief comeback in February when he featured against Dolphins.
Now he’s taken the reins as coach, although it’s still unclear whether he will serve full-time or continue pulling double duty as a player coach.
He takes over from Reason Tshilwane, who was recalled to Hot Heat after falling out of favour. Phalaborwa United fans know the club has had a history of chopping and changing coaches faster than you can say “Nedbank Cup.” After promotion to the ABC Motsepe League, the club’s bench has seen names like Timmy Mashele, former Kaizer Chiefs legend Teffo Mashamaite, and Mashoto Malesa all come and go, leaving fans scratching their heads.
Maluleke’s winning debut, however, has given fans hope that this time, the club has found some stability. Supporters are eager to see him flourish like Katlego Mashego, who has successfully juggled playing and coaching at Dolphins.
With his experience, leadership, and deep knowledge of the game, Maluleke is perfectly placed to steady the ship. The win over Nkowankowa Continental could just be the start of a new era for Phalaborwa United — one where results, stability, and smart football finally go hand in hand.
