Ory bouquets and Welcome to another edition of free political entertainment, direct from the office of our Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba! Who needs a comedy show ticket when Limpopo government delivers the laughs every single week?
This week, the Premier gathered us around for a massive announcement: the grand cabinet reshuffle! After barely two years in office, Dr Phophi looked at her Executive Council, did some deep spiritual evaluation, and decided to give the provincial deck of cards a thorough mix-up.
THE MUSICAL CHAIRS SPECTACLE
If you thought a reshuffle meant bringing in brand new expertise, think again! In true Limpopo fashion, the Premier mostly just picked up her MECs, spun them around three times, and handed them a different door key.
Take Ms Nakedi Kekana and Mr Basikopo Makamu, for example. Nakedi moved from Agriculture to Transport and Community Safety, while Basikopo left CoGHSTA to take over Agriculture. It is like swapping your left shoe for your right shoe and pretending you just bought a whole new pair of boots.
Then we have Ms Florence Radzilani. While the rumour mill was spinning about who moves where, Florence sat comfortably in Social Development without moving an inch. Stable like a mountain!
THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Of course, we must congratulate the three fresh faces stepping into the arena:
- Mr Eddie Maila, who steps straight into the fire as the new MEC for Health. Good luck keeping the clinic lights on, sir!
- Ms Constance Kupa-Mabuza, taking over Sport, Arts and Culture. We hope she has a budget set aside for provincial celebrations, because Lord knows we love a ceremony.
- Mr Pule Shayi, packing his bags from the Mopani District Municipality to take over CoGHSTA!
THE MOPANI WAR FOR THE MAYORAL CHAIN
Speaking of Pule Shayi, his move to Polokwane has officially thrown our very own Mopani region into pure chaos.
Now that Pule has vacated the Mopani Executive Mayor seat, the battle for the mayoral chain is hotter than a summer afternoon in Giyani! Regional Chairperson Dagma Mamanyoha was naturally getting ready to step up and take the chain. But inside the party corridors, the knives are already out. Factions are throwing ethnic identity and regional squabbles around just to block him from taking office.
Meanwhile, Regional Secretary Sonia Ngobeni is still busy running her political show like a one-woman jamboree. So while Premier Ramathuba promises us “agile service delivery” from Polokwane, back home in Mopani, leaders are too busy fighting over Pule’s empty chair to check why the taps are dry!

“Strategic Realignment”
- Official Translation: A necessary operational step taken after rigorous evaluation to accelerate the provincial developmental agenda.
- Actual Meaning: Moving the same people into different offices so everyone gets a fresh business card while the public waits for basic water and electricity.
THE BOTTOM LINE
To the three outgoing MECs who were dropped—Dieketseng Masesi Mashego, Jerry Maseko, and Susani Violet Mathye—we send our sympathies. Do not take it personally; politics in Limpopo moves faster than a local taxi.
