The talented Mthobekhi Bright Stars Under-13 side were crowned champions of the Build It under-13 tournament last Saturday at Mzinoni local ground.
They beat a Mopye side by a 4-3 victory on penalties after the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Eight teams from Bolobedu participated in the one-day tournament sponsored by Build it.
The teams were Mokwasele Young Killers, Mzinoni Mighty Boys, Molloni FC, Mthobekgi Bright Stars, Mabulana Dynamic FC, Goal Busters, Mzinoni, and Mpye.
In the quarterfinals, Mthobekhi beat Mokwasele Young Killers 1-0 in full time, while Mighty FC won 4-0 against Mzinoni. Mopye and Dynamic won 4-2 and 5-4 on penalties, respectively, after their games ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
The semifinals produced no goals in full time and were decided on penalties. Mthobekhi edged out Mighty 5-4 on penalties, while Mopye also won 4-3 on penalties against Dynamic to qualify for the finals.
The champions received a trophy, gold medal, cash prize, and a brand new soccer kit from Build it, while second-placed Mopye received silver medals and soccer bibs.
Innocent Mthobekhi of Bright Stars won the Player of the Tournament award. In Netball Mighty emerged winners over mokwasele ladies.
