Lion Rose’s debut track, Pull Me Closer, is the springboard from where her musical career is being launched
Morbidly odd though it might sound, but it is often hard to imagine a person in a greater state of euphoria than an imminent artist who has just released a debut single.
This is probably because, as Bolobedu’s latest Rhythm And Blues (R&B) exponent, Lion Rose describes her brand new project as “Expression of Inner-self.”
Her debut offering, Pull Me Closer, is the springboard from where her musical career is being launched.
Born in Sunnyside, outside Pretoria but raised at the sleepy village of Ga-Rapitsi in the Bolobedu hinterlands, the young lass shies away from her Khelobedu genealogy and explores her lyrics in English.
Since her formative years, Lion Rose has always been connected to music and through her own tunes she finds herself overwhelmed by emotions that complete her body and soul.
“Through this musical journey, I find myself in an excursion that fulfils my future path as I express my thoughts entirely. As I get out of my humble, normal life, it is through my musical divinity that I understand the artist emotions” Lion Rose explains.
She went on to say “It is through song and dance that I find joy while reflecting on the joys and frills of the universe. Music often highlights the struggles individuals go through, the things that trouble us in deferent societies.”
Lion Rose is leaving other youthful genres like Kwaito and Amapiano behind her to explore the R&B genre, a popular music that originated within African-American communities in the 1940s.
As she navigates through the R&B journey, her lyrical themes are bound to often encapsulate the African-American history and experience of pain and the quest for freedom and joy, as well as triumphs and failures in terms of societal racism, oppression, relationships, economics, and aspirations.
This contemporary form combines rhythm and blues with various elements of pop, soul, funk, disco, hip-hop, and electronic music.
Lion Rose’s music is set to dominate the airwaves on Spotify, YouTube and Apple music.
“I have been in the studio for a few months crafting my masterpiece and when the public gets an opportunity to listen to the upcoming tracks, they will be blown away…” she quips confidently, retaining that spirit of verbal parsimony.
Evoking his rollercoaster childhood, Lion Rose explores her R&B pedigree for with a tinge of nostalgia and in the process has changed the context within which her work will be judged.
Now, instead of associating Lion Rose with others, one will be moved to think of her in the company of R&N living legends like Brandy, Marry J Blige and Rihanna, her all-time fan whom she draws inspiration from.
As Lion Rose walks down memory lane, she reminisces that: “Since I was a little kid, I have always been a follower of Rihanna’s music and those out-of-the-world tunes consumed in a manner unimaginable. Through her inspiration, I see myself growing bigger in this industry because I am very in tune with myself and been very good in expressing myself with music. “Sooner or later, I am going to venture in Khelobedu R&N and I will definitely going to take this world by storm and place my neighbourhood on the international stages. It is hard to encounter an artist and writer coming from Bolobedu and that is about to change. My followers can expect more from my offerings.
Lion Rose’s peers, of course, are youngsters of the Amapiano generation.
“Amapiano” she reckons, “is now the movement of our time but as you can see, some of us are changing the musical game with a variety of genres, and the preservation of R&B is the project I want to pursue with chartbusting tracks. Through my upcoming songs, I intend to entrench this genre and leave an indelible benchmark.”
Apart from music, Lions Rose has been burying her face in legal books in pursuit of her law degree.
“In this cutthroat business, one needs to arm herself with a legal background. Ignorance of the law has brought to an abrupt end many gullible artists who were exploited and robbed of their fortunes. I just don’t want to be among those statistics” Lion rose signed off.
